Basic Electronics Theory and Practice is a new book by Sean Westcott and Jean R. Westcott that lives up to its title, it covers the basics of electronics. It would be a good book for the high school or college student who wants to learn the fundamentals, components and systems employed in electronics. It could actually be a good review book for an electronics engineer. (Sam Davis)

This book is meant to inspire. It starts with no assumption of electronics knowledge and brings you to the point where you can be an inventor, a creator, a maker. Sensor + microcontroller + motor and with or without the internet you are on your way.

About the Author
SEAN WESTCOTT is an IT professional dating back to before the World Wide Web. He was in his high school AV club where he explained technology to his teachers, and ever since he has made it his specialty to bridge the knowledge gap between geeks and the rest of the world.
JEAN RIESCHER WESTCOTT took a History of Computers class back in 1985 and spent a summer studying programming in high school, but has been more of a book geek since she finished her law degree. She spent a long, wonderful time in independent bookselling and now works in book publishing. She writes a column on consumer technology. Sean and Jean have two children and live in Northern Virginia. They are the co-authors of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Electronics 101.

Lots of good information but too many errors to recomment it.

This book has many errors and in some places is just plain wrong. Examples of errors are: P = V x R (Power = Voltage X Resistance) on pages 20 and 86, these should be P = V x I and P = V squared / R; grounding mats prevent electrocution on page 60, it should say they prevent component damage; current out of a resistor is less than the current entering the resistor and the resistors dissipate current through heat on page 83 are both incorrect statements; unit of capacitance are nanofarad (10exp-5) and picofarad (10exp-4) should be (10exp-9) and (10exp-12); the truth tables for the NAND and XOR are incorrect on pages 178 and 179; hexadecimal values take less space in memory than binary values on page 207, they both take the same number of binary bits. I don't think the authors had this book reviewed properly before it was published. The book has a lot of good information for an electronics beginner but the errors above and many more will cause a lot of confusion.
