Great alternative to the IB Study Guides

I am a big fan of the Biology and Chemistry books in the IB Study Guides, but I took a chance with this instead of the Tim Kirk book. I made the decision solely on having taken Dr. Tsokos's class (and he knows his stuff).
I am very happy with my choice. Topics are explained in very logical sequences, examples are clear, and the helpful hint boxes are, actually helpful.
That said, those used to the IB Study Guides will be shocked at first;
The format is completely different! - no boxes surrounding topics, looks more like a color textbook, with Test Yourself problems at the bottom of each page and the exam style questions for every topic in the back of the book.

If you really love the presentation of the IB Study Guides than this may not suit you, but if you are looking for an alternative, this is a good bet.

Useful for instructors

I have a PhD in elementary particle physics, and after I left research I started a private math and physics tutoring company. I read the pertinent chapter of Tsokos' textbook before I walk into my own classroom so the material will be fresh in my memory. I've found a few errors in the book, but that is true of every textbook, and only one error was really egregious - Tsokos' book scores quite high in terms of accuracy. This is currently my favorite IB physics review text.

The definitions, sample questions and self-test questions are organized to help any student prepare for the comprehensive exam. All students in IB Physics should have this exam preparation guide.

i found this book very interesting actually. i didnt look at the whole thing because there was so much stuff (some abberviations i would have rather not known). i dont really know how i came across this book, but i am glad i found it beacause this was a very interesting read. its really great if your bored and dont have much to do so you feel like reading it off! :)

In this book, the author presents a romanticized version of his neighborhood. Newark is most often known for its crime and violence, but the narrator in this book presents a beauty often associated with different environments. As we grow to understand his fascination with the Ironbound we, too, become enamored. Some may see this as a book detailing a break-up, but it is far from that. This book is a letter of undying love to a place, even if the narrator is acknowledging that he must leave it.

Tracks We've All Been Down...

"I'm losing you to the ways of the days." This sentence, which comes toward the end of Ironbound-a blog, strikes at the heart of the book. Like a man on a train forever leaving the crucible that formed who he is behind, he finds that the farther he gets, the less he misses what once was all he knew. Yet if he were to step outside and simply touch those train tracks, which extend all the way back, he could be brought there instantaneously. You can try to leave your past behind, but like it or not, you are bound to it. To truly break free requires an act of great will (burning bridges, or in this instance, exploding train tracks), which most of us don't possess. Instead, like the narrator of Ironbound, we find ourselves settling into the ways of our days, helpless to occasional bouts of nostalgia--to flashes of who we were in those halcyon days oh so long ago (and if not carefree, then no doubt a time that felt more intense). You out there in internet land, you will find something in these pages to relate to, to find some hidden meaning in, or, if anything, a parallel track that will take you back to your own loved place. I know I did.

Shall we get technical before we bid adieu? The writing is honest and drips with emotion. The language used helps elucidate the themes present, as well as form little labyrinths to get lost in. What I enjoyed most is the voice, it really vibes with me, I guess, as it creates this dream-like fugue I dug. Like most good poetry, it demands to be read slowly. And out loud, if you can manage it. Meditative and reflective, I found myself re-reading certain sections multiple times. Like any book, it's not for everyone but then again, you already knew that. All I can say then is that I strongly encourage you to experience this book, as it's a good one. Good bye.

This book is concerned with the emerging field of High Performance Reconfigurable Computing (HPRC), which aims to harness the high performance and relative low power of reconfigurable hardware–in the form Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs)–in High Performance Computing (HPC) applications. It presents the latest developments in this field from applications, architecture, and tools and methodologies points of view. We hope that this work will form a reference for existing researchers in the field, and entice new researchers and developers to join the HPRC community.

�The book includes:

�Thirteen application chapters which present the most important application areas tackled by high performance reconfigurable computers, namely: financial computing, bioinformatics and computational biology, data search and processing, stencil computation e.g. computational fluid dynamics and seismic modeling, cryptanalysis, astronomical N-body simulation, and circuit simulation.��
�Seven architecture chapters which present both commercial and academic parallel FPGA architectures, low latency and high performance FPGA-based networks and memory architectures for parallel machines, and a high speed optical dynamic reconfiguration mechanism for HPRC.
�Five tools and methodologies chapters which address the important issue of productivity and high performance in HPRC. These include a study of precision and arithmetic issues in HPRC, comparative studies of C-based high level synthesis tools and RTL-based approaches, taxonomy of HPRC tools and a framework of their analysis, and an integrated hardware-software-application approach to HPRC.

Okay Content, Received in Great Condition

I needed this for a class and it came to me in new condition (yay!). The material within the book is pretty good. They teach the information and have plenty of examples that can usually help you through the problem sets. However, it helps to have a professor that walks through his/her own problems as well because there are no answer keys so it is difficult to tell if you are on the right path to figuring out the problems.
