Legacy of Captain John Green

I love this book because it takes one back to the reality of 1784 ocean sailing to China. Captain John Green is an ancestor that braved the seas with a crew of sailors and spent 180 days seeking Canton China. Reading can be difficult because its in english of the time and the Captains log is lengthy but full of surprises as the weather and ocean reveal their natural rythem. I was hoping for a photo of Captain John Green but instead I got tremendous insight into his leadership and skill at navigation and his ability to communicate with foreigners along his journey. It's incredible the bravery and professionalism of these early explorers from America.

John Green had a son RObert Morris Green named after the financier of the Empress of China. Robert Morris Green had a son WIlliam Hueston Green and that name has passed down 8 generations thru our family. Many thanks to Philip Chadwick Foster Smith for his extensive research on this book.

A Book of Tears

I first met Brother Ravenhill in 1995 at his home in Lindale, Texas. His heart for God was filled with prayers and as we sat in his home and discussed prayer, revival, and repentance, he handed me a copy of this book.
This book, as Ravenhill would say, will go through you instead of you going through it. This book is not for lukewarm (Rev. 3:16-17), lazy (1 Thess. 5:14), or complacent Christian (Amos 6:1). This book will challange your prayer life, your faith, and most of all your love for Jesus.
If you enjoy books by E.M. Bounds, Charles Spurgeon, Andrew Murray, or Charles Finney than you will enjoy all the works of Leonard Ravenhill. He was great friends with A.W. Tozer and will take you deeper in your Christian life. I higly recommend you get all his books!

Another Classic

Anything by Leonard Ravenhill will challenge one's faith and nurture their soul. I was blessed to hear him for the first time at my home church when I was in elementary school. Through that event, and being exposed to his writings and his work with Last Days Ministries, God used him as a guiding influence upon my life and ministry.

This book is not for the faint of heart, nor is it for anyone who is happy with the way things are in the church today. However, if you sense that God is up to something in our world, and desires to draw us back to Himself, then check out this book. God will use it to change your life.

About the Author
Heidi Featherstone obtained her veterinary degree at the Royal Veterinary College in 1991 and completed a residency in veterinary ophthalmology at the Animal Health Trust. She became a Diplomate of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2001 and a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 2005. Heidi works in a team of ophthalmologists at a multi-specialty hospital in West Midlands, UK.

Elaine Holt obtained her veterinary degree at the University of Illinois and completed a residency in veterinary ophthalmology at the University of California Davis. She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 2001 and a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 2006. She was a lecturer at the school of veterinary medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and then at the Royal Veterinary College before joining the North Downs Specialist Referrals, a multi-specialty hospital in Surrey, UK.

Instead, it encompasses cultural as well as economic issues to put forth a view of L.A. which is coherent and cogent while at the same time considering its multi-layed, complex and ever-changing qualities.

It concludes by arguing that sectored off and 'totalizing' visions of the city will not do as instruments of urban analysis and that only a theory as mobile as its target will do: one that replicates the polymer nature of this place. It proposes that, extending that theory to the world beyond this particular city, only a theory that models itself on the mobile and polymer nature of the world, while still retaining a sense of the actual and the real, will do as an instrument with which to comprehend the world. In doing so, this book is not only a model by which to think through Los Angeles, but as a model by which to think through other world cities.

John Ingledew is the author of The A–Z of Visual Ideas and Photography. He has taught and written about design, photography and creative thinking for 20 years, worked at universities in Europe, America and Japan, and recently helped to set up an Art School in northern China. What a delightful cookbook!
Pakistani food is closely related ( or can be considered a variant of the 'Indian cuisine') to Indian food. Pakistani food, IMHO, has strong overtones of Mughal, Afghani culture. Ms Usmani does this cuisine a big favor by simplifying the cooking/ tenderizing techniques. I love Pakistani food-when I can get my hands of some. Pakistani food gets conflated with Indian and the results are not the same. Her side notes and anecdotes are just as delightful and it shows that this book is a labor of love for the author. Great Job!

A fascinating book

Summers under the Tamarind Tree is loaded with very interesting recipes slightly different than the Indian food we're used to eating, and some beautiful photographs. We enjoyed our first Pakistani dinner from the book last night, the Ginger Chicken, the Watermelon / mint and Daikon Salad etc. everything was delicious and healthy.

I have loved Sumayya's blog and am thrilled to have her cookbook. I have already cooked several recipes and they were all great. I also appreciate her providing some background about Pakistani cooking. It is a rich cooking heritage but doesn't get the acclaim that Indian cooking does.
