FM 3-96 applies to the infantry brigade combat team, Stryker brigade combat team, and armored brigade combat team. This publication supersedes FM 3-90.6, Brigade Combat Team. To comprehend the doctrine contained in this publication, readers must first understand the principles of the Army profession and the Army ethic as described in ADP 1, The Army. Readers also must understand the principles of war, the nature of unified land operations, and the links between the operational and tactical levels of war described in JP 3-0, Joint Operations; ADP 3-0, and ADRP 3-0, Unified Land Operations; FM 3-94, Theater Army, Corps, and Division Operations, and ATP 3-91, Division Operations. In addition, readers should understand the fundamentals of the operations process found in ADP 5-0 and ADRP 5-0, The Operations Process, associated with offensive and defensive tasks contained in FM 3-90-1, Offense and Defense Volume 1, and reconnaissance, security, and tactical enabling tasks contained in FM 3-90-2, Reconnaissance Security and Tactical Enabling Tasks, Volume 2. The reader must comprehend how stability tasks described in ADP 3-07 and ADRP 3-07, Stability, carry over and affect offensive and defensive tasks and vice versa. Readers must understand how the operation process fundamentally relates to the Army’s design methodology, military decisionmaking process, and troop-leading procedures and the principles of mission command as described in ADP 6-0 and ADRP 6-0, Mission Command, and FM 6-0, Command and Staff Organization and Operations. The principal audience for FM 3-96 is the commanders, staffs, officers, and noncommissioned officers of the brigade, battalions, and squadron within the BCT. The audience also includes the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command institutions and components, and the United States Army Special Operations Command. This publication serves as an authoritative reference for personnel developing doctrine, materiel and force structure, institutional and unit training, and standard operating procedures for the BCT.

Intuitive, clear and concise

James Johnson's Introduction to Fluid Power is the kind of book students want. There is a lot to like about this book: First off, the language used is not the "expert talking down to you" tone that many college texts seem to enjoy (and students hate). Each concept is presented in plain, logical, and easy to understand terms. There is no abundance of 10-cent words and aloof language for the sake of sounding superior. That isn't to say the topic is "dumbed-down" at all, it is just easy to read and written in a plain-speaking manner that makes the reader feel like he's listening to a lecture by a competent, knowledgeable, down-to-earth, and enthusiastic speaker. James obviously knows his subject intimately, understands is fully, and knows where students may have confusion or misunderstanding and he works hard to make it clear as to what is right and what is wrong. It is rare to find an instructional text where the author remembers what it is like to be new to the topic, outside of the "For Dummies" series and similarly styled books. This book possesses that level of intuitive simplicity. This is the clearest and easiest to read and understand college text that I have ever used.
Additionally, the illustrations are superior to any other book I've ever read for school. They are all in full-color, many are shaded to look 3-D, and they are liberally used. If a concept needs more than one illustration to show how a mechanism works, then you will see more than one illustration. Little is left to the imagination, and there is little margin for reader error in interpretation. Also included are full-color photographs of many of the devices discussed. The book is exceptional in this respect. Also, in terms of design, it is nice that every page has a liberal margin in which to take notes. Occasionally a small color photograph will appear in these margins. With all of this color and the numerous illustrations it would be easy for this book to come across as cluttered and garish. The book thankfully avoids this pitfall. The layout is wonderfully designed and the color schemes are subdued and understated.
The only complaint to be had with this text is that, being a first edition, it contains a fair share of typos, misprints, and improper labeling in illustrations. Despite this, any competent Instructor should be able to spot and correct the errors as they occur, and they will very likely to be fixed by the second edition of the book.
To sum-up: this book is exceptional; language that is easy to read and understand, numerous wonderful full-color illustrations, elegant easy-on-the-eyes design and layout, and topics that are presented logically, and explained completely. Every aspect of this text screams quality, and no expense was spared to make it as good as it is. It manages to avoid nearly every pitfall that a typical college text falls prey to, especially those in the technical realm. My only complaint is that I wish I owned a second-edition with the typos and various errors fixed. Current and future authors of college and instructional texts take note: you could learn a thing or two from James' effort.

Excellent Book for your tool box

I am an Senior Hydraulics Engineer and spend a lot of my time designing, analyzing and simulating hydraulic circuits for the Oil and Gas industry. There are many excellent books on the market on Hydraulics and this book is definitely something that I keep on my active reference list.

The Author has done an excellent job in covering a large aspect of the Hydraulics core subjects with excellent diagrams, pictorials, pictures and worked examples. He also provides a component level analysis. From a very objective perspective, I will recommend this book to those who are seeking beginning to intermediate level studies / self-learning of hydrauluics. Initially, one gets the feel that the book is very fundamental, but as I have read through the book, it is more than a book on fundamentals.

This book is a very good book for the fluid power student as long as they have a little algebra under their belt. Covers subjects well without a lot of empty reading and pretty easy to understand.
The only problem I have with it, there is no glossery and the index is not very complete. Other than that this is a book I will definitely keep for a reference guide down the road!

C.J. Archer never disappoints.

This is the seventh book in one of my favorite series and it did not disappoint, but then C.j. Archer never does. I have so enjoyed following Charlie and Lincoln through all their adventures. It was great seeing old characters and getting to know new ones. This author just has a way of writing that makes you want to learn more about every character you meet. I was happy to see the relationship between Charlie and Lincoln get back to being happy. In past books I've wanted to smack Lincoln for messing up my HEA, but this one actually had me ready to go after Charlie. Glad we got to see her make up her mind on the will she/won't she put that ring back on! We get to see Lincoln open up more with her and the others, which was nice and even funny at times. I was pleased with the ending, No cliff hanger, but still a mystery left to be solved. I'm looking forward to book eight.

While Of Fate and Phantoms is the seventh installment of C.J. Archer's Ministry of Curiosities series, the story line is far from stale. Ms. Archer continues to introduce new plot lines without it becoming chaotic or confusing to the reader.

We continue to glimpse pieces of the previous characters, as they are developed. I very much enjoyed getting to know Lady Gillingham throughout the book, and delving more into Lincoln's family life. Charlie continues to mature, taking on more responsibilities and handling them with grace. She and Lincoln, while still slightly strained in their relationship, are growing and taking on the challenges as a team instead of two individuals. Lincoln recognized his mistake, and while Charlie has forgiven him, she is not ready to sign over her life in marriage. One benefit for first-person narration is the insight we get into Charlie's thought processes and decisions along the way. Alice also plays a slightly larger role, becoming a beloved companion to Charlie as she works through her emotions, although Lady Vickers does not appreciate how Seth seems to have an eye for Alice.

There are also several new characters. Without spoiling anything, shape-shifters are involved, the royal family, Charlie's old gang comes back into the light (although previously mentioned, they play a much larger role in Of Fate and Phantoms). Ms. Archer does a wonderful job including these new faces without detracting from the main plot.

Overall, I believe this is a very strong novel, and a great addition to the series. Everything flows together tightly, even the introduction of smaller stories and new characters.

I love this series

I love this series. I love CJ Archer. This book I did not love. I didn't hate it. I eagerly awaited the release and devoured the book all in one sitting but only have like warm feelings about it. It didn't leave me with the desperate need of must knowing what happens next...

A lot of new characters are introduced. We met Lincolns parents and grandmother. Gilly's wife is in the book much more and we get to catch up with Charlie's old gang. Litchfield gets more staff well Seth, Alice and Lady Vickers seem to be at odds. Secretly I hated all the new characters and subplots as it left very little for Lincoln and Charlie. However we do see a new gentler side of Lincoln in this book but I didn't really like that character development either. There was very little action in this book. I felt most of the time was spent on character development which is not a bad thing. It is just not what I expected from this series. I kept waiting for a climatic scene and resolution to Charlie and Lincoln's relationship but it was more tepid than hot and considering their history that was disappointing. I hold out high hopes for the next installment of that will be the end for me...

Great for Any Mouse Fan!

My 2 1/2 year old twins love the Mouse books and when I saw this book, I had to get it. It's perfect for young children because it has a simple and easy to follow storyline. The board book is great because it's sturdy and should withstand the toddler years. I like the story because it combines an Easter egg hunt with colors and counting. Each page has one or two sentences and points out a different color and number of eggs. I highly recommend this book to any Mouse fan!

Read it twice!

My toddler (almost 2 yr old boy) is really into books and this one is his newest favorite. I always have to read it at least twice in a row!
It is a well made board book with nice pictures and colors. It's not too busy but very detailed. And there is a nice surprise at the end when we discover just WHO has been hiding these eggs all over the house! haha

My daughter still enjoyed the book

I bought this to put in my daughter's Easter Basket (shes 4). I bought it thinking it was similar to the other story line...of giving a mouse a cookie, and then seeing the chain of events afterwards. But this is not that. It's just the same mouse, but that's it. Maybe it says that on the description, but I didn't see it. My daughter still enjoyed the book. It was just a short read...So just so others are aware...if you're expecting that storyline, this is not the same. But it was great for her basket and we've already read it 10 times (so she must like it). =)

Reading this book was a pleasure. The three authors have a wealth of experience, and their book is uniformly high in quality, authoritative, cohesive, down to earth, and easy to read. It has none of the unevenness and missing or overlapping topics so common in multiauthored books. It is probably the best-illustrated, most comprehensive single-volume textbook on neuro-ophthalmology available today.

The book is divided into four sections. It opens with a practical review of the neuro-ophthalmic history and examination. The next section, on disorders of the afferent visual pathways, begins with an overview of the topical diagnosis and diagnostic testing of diseases of this system. Subsequent chapters cover disorders of the retina, the optic nerve, and the intracranial visual pathway that cause visual dysfunction. The chapters entitled ``Retinal Disorders,'' ``Disorders of Higher Cortical Function,'' ``Functional Visual Loss,'' and ``Visual Hallucinations and Illusions'' are particularly good. The third section, on efferent neuro-ophthalmic disorders, covers the pupils, facial-nerve dysfunction, cranial-nerve and gaze palsies, nystagmus, and abnormal eye movements. There is an excellent chapter on diseases of the orbit as they relate to neuro-ophthalmology. The last section discusses headache, facial pain, and disorders of facial sensation, all of which are common symptoms in nearly every field of medicine.

Each chapter follows a well-organized outline, in which a review of the relevant neuroanatomy, symptoms, and signs is followed by detailed discussions of presentation, pathophysiology, diagnosis, neuroimaging, diagnostic studies, and management of the diseases. The numerous tables allow for quick reference to entities more or less likely to be encountered. The authors venture outside of neuro-ophthalmology to list detailed endocrine, systemic, and imaging characteristics of the various disorders. The book is illustrated with high-quality, clearly labeled neuroimages and images of the fundus. There is an extensive list of up-to-date references (most from the late 1990s) at the end of each chapter; they include both the original sources and review articles for those who want to delve deeper into the subject.

There are two minor irritants, which I suspect are related to attempts to keep the price down. The figures and tables are commonly one page and occasionally two pages ahead of the related text, resulting in a certain amount of flipping of pages. The photographs of the fundus would have been more useful had they been reproduced in color. A minority of the black-and-white photographs of the fundus scattered throughout the text are reproduced in a central collection of 55 color plates, without any legends for the plates or cross-referencing with the original figures in the chapters. More pages to be flipped!

In their preface, the authors write,

Our hope was to offer a book that could serve both as a guide for diagnosing and managing patients with neuro-ophthalmic problems and a one-volume textbook containing in-depth discussions of neuro-ophthalmic topics and disorders. With just three authors, our aim was to create a highly organized and uniform textbook, extensively illustrated and referenced, that would bridge the gap between neuro-ophthalmic handbooks containing tables, outlines, and flow-diagrams and neuro-ophthalmic encyclopedias.

This is the best medical book I have ever used- and I've used ...

This is the best medical book I have ever used- and I've used many during my career. As neuro-ophthalmology is a complicated field with aspects not well understood as in neurology in general, sources often are confusing. This book clearly explains complicated topics starting with relevant basic science and then giving excellent and thorough explanations of clinical material. Abundant and clear photos, diagrams, tables,radiographs are used. The CD is superb and integrated into the text, This book already has become the leader in the field, and hopefully with remain so with a 3rd edition soon.
