A Must-Have Travel Resource

This book is easy to read and serves as a great resource for anyone planning, or even considering, a trip internationally. It provides a very straightforward, factual look at the pre-trip planning process while also utilizing the author's personal experiences abroad to make the content more engaging. The information is well organized and the planning/packing checklists in the back of the book are especially handy. I have had the pleasure of visiting several countries outside of the US and wished this book existed before my first international trip. At least I have it now as a reference to consult prior to future travels!

About the Author
Cari Meister has written more than a hundred books for children, including the "Tiny" series (Penguin) and the "Meet the Monsters" series (Stone Arch Books). She has received many awards for her books. Most recently, "Airplane Adventure" (Stone Arch Books), was named to "Parents" magazine Best Books for 2010. Cari has been fascinated by the night sky ever since she can remember. Her love of space and stars led her to Space Camp when she was growing up. Today, Cari lives in the mountains of Colorado, with her husband, four boys, two horses and one dog.

Carolina was born in Bah�a Blanca, Argentina. She graduated in 1993 becoming both a Professor and Bachelor of Arts specialized in drawing.� In 2005 she won the charge of Adjunt Teacher of the department of Drawing in the career of Visual Communication Design at the faculty of Bellas Artes.� In 2007 she was selected by the National Cultural Secretariat of Argentina as the illustrator for the XVI Feria del Libro of Habana, Cuba.� Carolina is currently working both as an illustrator and teacher.

I was born on the 7th of november 1986 in Cuneo, a city near Turin, Italy . As a young child, I was always drawing and painting and after my graduation I finally decided to make my great passion into a career! This was one of the best choice in my life. I attended a three years post diploma degree, with a master of Illustration at the IED of Turin, Italy, where I graduated in July 2008. During this experience I built up my artist’s skills, with a regardful eye to the juvenile illustration market. In 2010 I became part of the freelance Illustrators represented by the MB Artists of New York,� having the great possibility to work with several important publishers. This job is amazing and I just want to keep growing up in the great word of illustration, my job and my passion at the same time.

Eva Montanari was born in Rimini, Italy, in 1977. She started out as a children’s books author and illustrator while she was still a student, graduating from the State Institute of Art and the European Institute of Design in Milan. Now she is an internationally recognized artist that wrote and illustrated children books that have been published in Italy, United States, Japan, Taiwan, France, Spain, UK and Germany.

Polona Kosec was born in Ljubljana on a warm rainy day. Since the year 2006 she works as a freelance artist/illustrator. In 2009 she completed post-graduate qualification (a Master of Arts degree programme) at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. She likes working with other people and has collaborated with a number of publishing houses and authors through the years. She does illustrations and character design for children's books and children's magazines as well as short commercial animation.

Excellent little book...the only reason I don't give it 5 stars is the size

This is a cute little booklet and is inviting to flip through. It has diagrams and directions for 29 stitches from the standard French knot, cross stitch and chain stitch to Roumanian, pistil stitches and spider web rose. My go-to stitch to evaluate the worth of a stitch guide is how it handles the bullion knot. If you stretch out the diagrams, it's 7 different steps. You can get away with fewer diagrams if the directions are clear. This one does a fairly good job with 4 diagrams and good explanations of each step.

One problem is that sometimes there is a disconnect between the fiber and needle and the fabric, as if you are doing some of the stitches in the air! It would be very helpful if the directions for each each referred to the fabric it's embroidering because the stitch count is crucial: some stitches must be done over 2 or 4 threads on linen or evenweave whereas others are suitable for aida. Some are useful only for counted stitching and some only for surface stitching. One thing the book does fairly well is show the differences between running or double running stitch, outline stitch and stem stitch, all of which create a line. But each line has a slightly different "look" and is distinguished by the direction the working thread is held and the closeness of each stitch. I think I will get some good use from the booklet.

Great embroidery stitch book

This is a good book for someone who wants help in learning different embroidery stitches. I'm just learning and it has been really good. I'm sure it would be a help for those more advanced to. I had no trouble understanding how to make the stitch following the instructions.

It's in my travel bag right now!

Great little book to put into the handwork bag you take with you when you anticipate have to wait. I reminds you how to make those stitches you seldom use. It describes the making of each stitch and suggests some of the most common uses of each one. Not extensive but clear and includes the most common stitches for embroidery and crewel work.
